VISUAL IMPACT 2012
CANON USA and VII Educational Tour

© Ed Kashi, Ashley Gilbertson and Christopher Morris / VII
This fall Canon USA and the photographers of VII are hitting the road to visit the top journalism programs at universities across the United States. Presentations will focus on media literacy as well as how the Canon EOS-1DX is changing the face of video within the commercial and social documentary fields.
Rochester Institute of Technology, University of North Carolina, University of Missouri and New York University are all part of the program.
With long experience at the forefront of photojournalism the photographers of VII have adopted the latest technologies to create dynamic imagery and film in the areas of Fashion, Music, Lifestyle, Philanthropic and Foundation Story Telling, Narrative and Documentary. They are applying their photojournalistic skills in surprising new contexts and as part of the Visual Impact talks they will openly discuss their creative processes and share techniques behind their successes and use of Canon over the years. A Canon USA representative will be present at every journalism school event to answer questions about the EOS-1D X.
Check local university listings for registration details.

Visual Storytelling: The Personal and Political
VII Photographer Ed Kashi
November 29 – 30, 2012
The digital age is giving documentary photographers and photojournalists extraordinary new ways to tell stories with greater authorship and control. With editorial photography changing so dramatically, there has never been a greater need for the documentary photographer to be able to put a personal stamp on their work. As with most of Ed Kashi’s work, the ultimate goal is to learn how to find a subject you are passionate about, document it in a compelling and unique visual style and disseminate the work effectively to change people’s minds and help write history. Kashi will use as examples his many personal projects in both still and multimedia formats, including his seminal work on “Aging in America” and recent work about the Kurds in Iraq, India and the Niger Delta for National Geographic. Kashi will discuss story development, funding, setting your goals, and dissemination of your work. In his masterclass he will review students’ work and in an intimate setting share his photographs, multimedia and short films to engage students in the range of opportunities currently available for creating meaningful work.
