VII Mentor Program photographer Amanda Rivkin’s project Tomorrow Belongs to Me has been selected for ArchivoZine Spring Issue No. 4: Social Issues Edition. Archivo is a Portuguese arts foundation which will also feature the work in their annual printed publication.

VII Mentor Program photographer Sim Chi Yin has been recognized as one of PDN’s 30 New and Emerging Photographers to Watch in 2013.

Maciek Nabrdalik has been recognized in two categories of the 2013 BZ WBK Press Foto, a contest open to Polish press photographers working in photojournalism.

Stefano De Luigi has been recognized in the Days Japan International Photojournalism Awards 2013 for his work “Northwest Passage,” which won the Special Prize by Juries.
- Hansel Mieth Prize 2013
The 2013 Hansel Mieth Prize has been awarded to VII photographer Seamus Murphy and writer Jan Christoph Wiechmann for “A Life in Kabul,” published by Stern. The documentary piece, through telling the story of five Afghan brothers, speaks to the narrative of an entire country affected by conflict.

The photographers of VII have received awards and recognition in several categories of the 2013 Pictures of the Year International awards.
- Asian Women Photographers’ Showcase
VII Mentor Program photographer Sim Chi Yin has been named a finalist for the Asian Women Photographers’ Showcase for her work “China’s ‘rat tribe”. The exhibition was part of the Chiang Mai Documentary Arts (CMDA) Festival, which was held Feb. 8 – 14, 2013 in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
- 2013 Sony World Photography Awards
VII Photographers Ed Kashi and Davide Monteleone have been shortlisted in the 2013 Sony World Photography Awards. Kashi’s coverage of Hurricane Sandy appears in the shortlist for the Current Affairs category and images from Russian Civil Society by Monteleone are included in the Portraiture Shortlist.
- Kickstarter Launch | Invasion: War Diaries From Iraq
Invasion: War Diaries From Iraq, a multimedia exhibition featuring VII’s Gary Knight, writer Peter Maass and US Marine Tim McLaughlin, is now raising funds on Kickstarter for an upcoming exhibition at the Bronx Documentary Center in March, to coincide with the 10th Anniversary of the Invasion of Iraq.

Too Young to Wed, by executive producer, photographer and videographer Stephanie Sinclair and Director and cinematographer Jessica Dimmock, has been awarded first prize for an online feature at the 2013 World Press Photo Multimedia Contest.
- Website Launch | In the Shadow of the Pyramids by Laura El-Tantawy
VII Mentor Program photographer Laura El-Tantawy has recently launched a website dedicated to her long term project on Egypt, “In the Shadow of the Pyramids.” El-Tantawy began this ongoing series in 2005 and is currently based in Cairo, where she is continuing to develop the body of work and is working towards publishing it as a book. “In the Shadow of the Pyramids,” is supported by burn magazine.
- Book Launch | Red Thistle by Davide Monteleone
VII announces the release of Red Thistle, the new book by Davide Monteleone and the 2011 winner of The European Publishers Award for Photography. In Red Thistle, now available for purchase on the VII Bookstore website, Monteleone examines the stubborn, rebellious culture of the Northern Caucasus.
