Reception: Thursday, May 3, 2012, 7-9pm
VII Gallery
Brooklyn, New York

In anticipation of the long-awaited book of the same name, VII is proud to exhibit Questions Without Answers, a powerful visual history of our ever-changing world and recent defining events. Published in conjunction with the 10th anniversary of the founding of the agency, Questions Without Answers: The World in Pictures by the Photographers of VII demonstrates the unparalleled excellence of the VII photographers in chronicling the impact of unseen conflicts, humanitarian crises, and catastrophic events

This unflinching record documents pivotal events and people around the world during the past two decades, starting with the end of the Cold War and continuing through to recent world events. Organized chronologically, it takes us from the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 to recent uprisings in Libya and Egypt and immerses us in the Indonesian tsunami of 2004, the earthquake in Haiti, and Hurricane Katrina. Compelling portraits provide us with an intimate glimpse of public figures including Nelson Mandela, President Barack Obama, and Yves St. Laurent, as well as everyday people whose stories need to be told, such as the child brides of India, Yemen, Afghanistan, and Ethiopia.

With photographs from eleven of the world’s foremost photojournalists, this eye-opening collection provides an incisive social, political, environmental and cultural commentary that is as moving and thought provoking as it is visually stunning.

The exhibit is curated by Denise Wolff of Aperture.
